In the heart of Midtown Manhattan lies the boutique Hyatt Herald Square, where the eclectic and diverse city around it defines every element of the space. This project highlights The Allied Group’s ability to successfully complete a high-profile renovation featuring unique, custom design elements on an aggressive schedule.
The scope of work included a full lobby gut down to the infrastructure, followed by a complete re-fit of the space. This began with the installation of new mechanical and life safety systems, elevator upgrades, and modernized electrical systems. The finish package demanded multiple ceiling elevations, incorporating suspended, custom-manufactured millwork, low-voltage lighting, and custom dimming systems discreetly installed in pockets behind architectural glass elements. The perimeter wall space featured a stacked wood panel system, designed and manufactured by Allied’s exclusive millwork partner.
To complement the theme of the historic newspaper district of Herald Square, vintage metal art elements were custom fabricated by one of Allied’s architectural metal and millwork suppliers. The flooring was also transformed, replacing dull ceramic tile with custom Italian marble installed in 10 separate phases—executed in a way that appeared seamless to hotel guests.
Remarkably, the entire project was completed within just 8 weeks while the hotel remained fully operational, welcoming high-value guests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
